Setting Up Testing Accommodations in NWEA

02 February, 2021

Students with IEPs, 504 plans, and/ or ELL plans, may be eligible to have certain accommodations or accessibility features while taking their NWEA Map Growth assessments.

Set Up Test Session

The first step a teacher must complete prior to setting up accommodations for testing is to create a testing session for the students. The link below takes you to the steps to set up your session.

NOTE: you must assign the appropriate test to each student to ensure that the given accommodations are aligned with the student's testing plans.

FEATURES AVAILABLE

Accommodations are either:

  • EMBEDDED or Non-EMBEDDED

  • Universal or Designated

EMBEDDED - these features are a part of the NWEA MAP Growth test and are available online as the student is testing

Non-EMBEDDED - these occur outside of the online testing environment

Universal - these are available to all students

Designated - these have to be specifically provided by proctor

Designated, embedded features must be set up as part of the testing session accommodations for the student.

Assign Accommodations

Once you have set up the testing session and assigned the tests for students, click on a student's name and select the ASSIGN ACCOMMODATIONS button.

Embedded Designated Features have to be selected for each student, as appropriate. An example of this is a TEXT-TO-SPEECH option.  This option is only available for the English versions of assessments.

Non-embedded Designated Features will be provided by the teacher, if allowed in the student's IEP/ testing plans.  An example of this is a bilingual dictionary for ELL students.

Other non-embedded features are frequently found in student plans and are allowed as defined in the plans.  These may include frequent breaks, scratch paper, or a noise buffer.  These do not have to be set up in the testing system as they are provided by the teacher.
